Social Workers Generations Strong
March 2020’s Theme: Social Workers Generations Strong
March is National Social Work Month! Social Workers confront some of the most challenging issues facing individuals, families, communities, and society and forge solutions that help people reach their full potential and make our nation a better place to live.
The Five W’s of Oncology Social Work at Ironwood:
WHO are the oncology social workers?
Kelly Huey, MSW, LCSW, OSW, covers: Chandler I & Chandler II
Nicole McAllister, LMSW, covers Avondale, Glendale, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Sun City
Jessica Wells, LMSW, covers Mesa-Arbor, Dobson, and Gilbert
WHAT do oncology social workers do?
Social work is available to all Ironwood patients who need help with support and counseling for both themselves as well as caregivers and children. They are available to assist with Advance Care planning, smoking cessation, wellness education, and to provide support through one or more of the various support groups offered here at Ironwood. Ultimately, the social workers are here to assist with any barriers that may come between you and your treatment.
WHEN can I meet with a social worker?
You are welcome to schedule an appointment with any of our Social Workers by calling them or emailing email@example.com. No referral is needed.
WHERE are these social workers?
Each location is covered by one of our three social workers. Check out the “Who” section to see which social worker covers your office. Our social workers do travel from office to office and are flexible as to which office they can meet you and which is most convenient for you.
WHY do oncology patients need a social worker?
Social workers are trained professionals with a master’s degree. They can provide emotional support, assistance with basic needs, and resources during your cancer treatment. All treatments and classes offered at Ironwood are supported by evidence-based research.
