Syed Ali Akbar, MD

Syed Ali Akbar, MD is a medical oncologist and hematologist specializing in lung, head & neck, skin, and sarcoma cancers, as well as hematologic disorders. He joined Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers in March 2023.

He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Missouri and his Hematology & Oncology fellowship at SUNY Upstate Medical University. He has worked in both academic and community settings, including roles at the University of Minnesota and Allegheny Health Network.

Dr. Akbar is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology, and is actively involved in clinical research. He is dedicated to delivering compassionate, personalized care and building long-term relationships with his patients.

Outside of work, he enjoys time with his family, traveling, and playing pickleball.
