Dr. Sonia Sandhu completed her medical school and Internal Medicine residency from Pt BD Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak, India, which is one of the top medical universities in Northern India.
She then moved to the United States in 2008 and did residency training in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Hematology and Oncology from John H Stroger, Jr Hospital of Cook County, Chicago, IL. She was actively involved in various teaching and research activities during her training. From 2015-2022 she worked at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital where she was the Section Chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology.
During her years at Cleveland Clinic she was actively involved in clinical care of patients suffering from various disorders in the field of Hematology and Oncology, presiding tumor board meetings and running several clinical trials. She also served as Assistant Professor of NEOMED and Assistant Program Director for the residency program and was named as best teacher of the year by residents and medical students for several years in a row.
She is a member of American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and American Society of Hematology (ASH). Her research is published in high-impact journals such as Cancer Cell, Clinical Cancer Research, Blood, etc.
Dr. Sandhu specializes breast cancer and hematologic disorders. By careful listening and using latest technological advances she forms an individualized treatment plan for her patients. In her words “I want to be with my patients at every step of their medical journey”.
In her spare time, Dr Sandhu loves to travel and spend time with her husband and two children. In August 2022 she joined Ironwood Cancer Research Center, bringing her years of experience and administrative skills to premier Oncology Center in Phoenix area.
