Syed Ali Akbar, MD

Syed Ali Akbar, MD specializes in lung, head & neck, skin & sarcoma malignancies and hematologic disorders. He joined Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers in March 2023. After completing medical school in Pakistan, he went on to complete his internal medicine training at the University of Missouri, Columbia. Following residency, he completed his fellowship in Hematology & Medical Oncology at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse, New York.

Dr. Akbar gained a wide range of expertise through his experiences across different health care systems from the academic environment to community practice. He has worked at the University of Minnesota as adjunct assistant professor and Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology as well as the American Society of Hematology. He is at present an investigator in research trials.

Dr. Akbar is a firm believer of bringing quality care closer to home and is a strong and compassionate patient advocate who is committed to developing long term relationships with his patients in order to improve their health. He is dedicated to utilizing innovative and personalized treatment options to improve patient outcomes and ensure all their pressing needs are being met.

In his free time, Dr. Akbar enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children. He also enjoys traveling, playing cricket and table tennis.
