Ironwood Cancer Centers: A Legacy of Selfless Patient Care in Phoenix

We are honored to be featured in Phoenix Magazine article How these cutting-edge Valley medical groups became trusted institutions for patients across Phoenix.  The article highlights the guiding principle: sevā, a Sikh concept meaning “selfless service.” This value inspired our founder, Dr. Parvinderjit Khanuja, to establish Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers in 1993.

“If you are in health care, you have to have a feeling of sevā in you,” says Dr. Khanuja. “The bottom line is we have to take care of the patient. The patient is the focus for us.”

From humble beginnings, Ironwood has grown organically through partnerships with independent oncology practices across the Valley. Today, we proudly operate 15 locations, offering comprehensive cancer care under one roof—including radiation and medical oncology, advanced imaging (CT and PET), chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and women’s oncology services.

Our integrated approach means patients don’t have to navigate multiple facilities for treatment. This not only enhances convenience but also helps keep costs down. As one of the largest remaining private oncology practices in Arizona, we strive to make care accessible and affordable.

Independence also allows us to participate in landmark clinical trials, giving patients early access to life-saving therapies before they reach the market. But beyond innovation, our heart remains with the patient experience. Each year, we celebrate survivorship with a special event that brings our community together—a true reflection of sevā and the celebration of life.
