Resources

A cancer diagnosis can affect every part of your life—physically, emotionally, and practically. From managing treatment side effects to handling financial stress and family responsibilities, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed. But you don’t have to go through it alone.

At Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers, our dedicated social work team is here to support both patients and caregivers as part of our Supportive Care Services. We’re here to walk alongside you, offering guidance, resources, and compassionate care every step of the way.

Whether you’re newly diagnosed, in active treatment, or navigating survivorship, here are someways our social work team can help:

Helping You Understand Your Diagnosis

Our social work team works closely with your medical team to help you understand your diagnosis and treatment plan. They’re here to explain things clearly and compassionately, and to support you through the emotional impact of your diagnosis.

Each social worker is trained to address a wide range of concerns, and some specialize in challenges related to specific cancers. For example, patients with colorectal cancer may receive support around body image and lifestyle changes, while those with brain tumors may get help planning for cognitive changes.

Connecting You with Financial Resources

Worried about the cost of care? You’re not alone. our social work team is here to help. We can guide you through available financial assistance options, including support with insurance, and connect you with organizations and resources that may be able to help ease the financial burden of treatment.

Supporting Conversations with Loved Ones

Talking to family and friends about your diagnosis can be difficult. we can help you prepare for these conversations, even role-playing with you to build confidence. They can also join you during discussions to offer support and help ensure your voice is heard.

Caring for Caregivers

Caregivers need support, too. Whether you’re a spouse, parent, sibling, or friend, we are available to help you cope with the emotional and practical demands of caregiving. Even if your loved one hasn’t met with a counselor, you can.

We also offer caregiver-specific support groups and resources to help you feel less alone.

Planning for the Future

Whether you’re thinking about survivorship or end-of-life care, our team can help you plan ahead. They assist with legal documents like advance directives, living wills, and medical power of attorney, and ensure your wishes are communicated to your care team.

Your values and choices matter—and we’re here to help you honor them.
