Joseph Nabong, MD

Dr. Joseph Nabong is Chief of Strategy and Development for Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers. He is a board-certified medical oncologist and specializes in genitourinary, lung head & neck and hematologic disorders. He is at present an investigator in research trials.

Dr. Nabong began his undergraduate studies at The University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines (at the age of 16), where he became interested in medicine. After graduating from UST, he continued his education at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, earning his Medical Degree. Dr. Nabong completed his residency in Internal Medicine and his Fellowship in Medical Oncology at Hahnemann University, Philadelphia.

Dr. Nabong joined Ironwood Physicians, P.C., in 2003 as a Medical Oncologist. As Ironwood grew Dr. Nabong became the Chief of Strategy and Development. Dr. Nabong is highly skilled at presenting the mission and values of Ironwood to key stakeholders. He has played a critical role in determining the appropriate geography (locale) for Ironwood’s five fully integrated cancer centers located in community settings.

Dr. Nabong is genuinely the “heartbeat” of Ironwood. His caring attitude towards patients, his kind and humorous spirit, and his commitment to clinical excellence serves as an example to all Ironwood physicians and staff members. Dr. Nabong is unwavering when sourcing what each patient needs in the way of clinical testing, which is so critical to the “appropriate and individualized” care of our patients.

In 2021 Dr. Nabong was honored as one of Phoenix Business Journals Most Admired Leaders for his community leadership, professional accomplishments, and personal achievements.

Dr. Nabong is actively involved in the education of medical students and residents from Midwestern University and serves as extended faculty. He has been selected by his professional peers as a Top Doc in PHOENIX Magazine.

Dr. Nabong is married to pediatrician Dr. Maria Nabong and has four sons, two of whom are pursuing careers in medicine.
